INTRODUCTION TO NATURAL HAIR For most millennials, icons like Diana Ross, the Jackson 5, Alisha keys, and Bob Marley - just to mention a few, were figureheads of style and culture for the black people. They had massive influence on fashion, music and over time what has become a movement for natural hair. These people, one would say, saw the bigger picture before it was glaring in the faces of others. They stood by their roots and connected with their ancestral African origin the best way they...

Just the other day, I was surfing on LinkedIn - the popular jobs and career network, when I came across a shared post unlike anything I've ever seen on that platform. One of my connections had shared a post by one of hers announcing that she had just published a children's book centered on Natural African Hair. Her primary aim with this book is to boost self acceptance and self esteem in kids who've been blessed with Afro hair. As you can imagine, I was immediately excited; but I wasn't the only...

The most popular saying for most naturalistas is; the shrinkage is REAL! Inasmuch as shrinkage is an annoying thing for ladies with natural hair, most especially for 4c hair type, it is a sign of healthy hair. How much hair shrinks varies from person to person. I, for one experience this phenomenon in the worst  of ways but i have come to accept how my hair react with H2O. Interestingly, shrinkage allows me the opportunity to switch up my look a little more when i want to rock a fro. So ladie...

It's been a long time I came on here..Hope everyone is doing great? For the past few months I have been quite busy so I haven't really been doing a lot to my hair... I have a thing for headwraps which is called DUKU in Ghana . There are many reasons to wear a headwrap. Here are a few of my personal reasons: ~ It protects my hair from the wind and rain ~ Helps to retain moisture ~ Serves as a protective style for my natural hair on days when I don't feel like touching my hair ~ And it's...

I don’t think I have to stress so much introducing coconut oil to you. We all have used coconut oil before. It is one essential oil that every naturalist must own. One major issues when purchasing not only oils but hair products generally, is identifying fake products from the original products. I have fallen victim of bad oil several times because I did not know how to identify good oils from bad ones. Today I would be giving the basic clues on how to identify good coconut oil. Since it i...

Hello people. Long time no blog! It’s been so long and I definitely have missed writing here. Do not blame me in anyway…blame our unreasonable educational system. One of the major questions I get every time from Naturalists is the question on what oils they are to use. Some would even ask: “Which one is the koko oil that I can’t do without? It is only that one I want to buy”. I must say this, there are so many oils out there and they all perform different functions. It’s the same way we have d...

Hello everyone. I know for sure that wearing your natural hair all the time makes you feel like a queen and it gives you so much pride. At times though, life can just drop all its weight on you, and you forget that you even have hair on your head. This exactly is what forced me to have my hair braided up. With school constantly making demands on me and giving me little or no time to even look in the mirror, talk less of having time to style my hair the way I wish. I will be sharing a few tips w...

I learned these in the 12th month of my 1 yr and 6 months (after my big chop) natural hair journey. And it wasn't until my 11th month that I got to know I had low porosity hair. What is porosity in hair? Porosity is your hair's ability to absorb moisture. Low porosity hair is usually considered healthy, and is often shiny. This type of hair repels moisture when you try to wet it. Low porosity hair is also prone to build up from protein rich deep conditioning products which can leave it feeling ...

Hello June!!! How have you ladies been sine we last met? Today I will be discussing my relationships with people in general; especially in light of the fact that I am all natural. I've been natural for a few years now. And trust me, it has been a liberating experience. I can remember when I went natural, a lot of people kept asking me if I was sure of what I was about to do...or doing. For a moment then, I almost turned around and quit on the natural game. About the same time, I remember Al...
